When Kittens Open Their Eyes

When kittens open their eyes. At about three weeks of age the cat s eyes open fully. Kittens start to open their eyes at around one week old but their eyesight is still not developed. Its eyes will start to open and will be completely open at 9 to 14 days old. Slowly but surely the eyes will open completely and shed the film.

About ten to 14 days after birth the kitten will slowly start to open her eyes. As they get more acclimated. Basically kittens spend the first week or so of their lives deaf and blind. The kitten s eyes will begin to open from 7 to 10 days post birth.

Their newly opened eyes are blue until about two months of age when they start to change color unless they will remain blue.

Kittens eyes do not open all at once. As a kitten s pupils don t dilate and contract readily protect your kitten from bright lights. They usually open when the kittens are between 8 and 14 days old. Kittens eyes are very important to them because they need to be able to see as much as possible and for most of them to stay healthy.

All kittens are born with their eyes closed which enables the eyes to continue developing after birth and protect them from light. So when do kittens open their eyes. It will begin as a thin slit. In fact they may not open their eyes until they are a year old or two.

If you notice any swelling or bulging under the eyelids you should open them gently with a cotton ball dampened with warm water do not use q tips. All kittens eyes are blue and will remain so for several weeks. Newborn kittens start opening their eyes in the first week to 10 days of their lives.
